What to wear in an infrared sauna?

This perplexes many people. Should I wear clothes in my infrared sauna?

Now of course it’s entirely up to you and you have to consider the circumstances. In any sauna you need to think about the sensibilities of everyone using the sauna. If there are other people using the sauna then it’s best to think carefully about the wearing of clothes.

However many people have their own infra red saunas and so it’s only them or their family that use the sauna.

The best way to use an infrared sauna is to do so with minimal or no clothes. The infrared rays do penetrate clothing, so wearing clothes will not totally eliminate the effects, but it is better not to wear clothing so that the rays penetrate the skin as well as possible. Clothing is not needed and only lessens the effects of the far infra red rays, and these are the exact effects that you are seeking.

So, as long as it is in circumstances where it is acceptable to other users, no clothes in an infrared sauna.

However it is useful to take a towel with you, at least to sit on, as this makes sitting more comfortable when you are sweating. Fold it up into a small cushion so it is comfortable.

However it is possible to buy clothes specifically designed for infrared sauna use, and the manufacturer claims that these special clothes will in fact improve the heating effect from the infra red rays in the sauna. These are specifically designed to direct the heating effects from the infrared rays to where they are needed, and are more designed for those looking for specific relief from pain and other injury related problems.
