Are Portable Infrared Saunas Hot Or What?
Portable infrared saunas. Is it really possible to have a sauna that you can move around?
Isn’t that a hot deal!!
Yes absolutely it’s possible to have your own portable infrared sauna. Most people are very surprised to hear that as there is an impression that saunas of any description are large imposing structures, often outside, that house a good number of people and are fixed in place.
However that’s not essential, and there are various benefits to a portable infrared sauna. The obvious one is that you can take it with you.
How? What is it that allows you to have a portable sauna?
The first essential is size. If you’re looking to have a sauna for 6 people and make it portable then forget it. Portable saunas are small, nothing much more than the size of a wardrobe.
The second essential is materials. Most people see a sauna as something made from solid wood. Heavy, strong and just about impossible to move. And for traditional Finnish saunas this is usually the case. A traditional sauna is fully contained and heavy, and often made from solid wood. However the use of modern infra red technology allows much more flexibility with the use of materials.
It is quite possible, for example, to have an infrared sauna outside, because the sauna does not work by heating the air around you but by the direct application of far infra red light to your body. So it is quite possible, for example, to have an infrared sauna in a tent.
A sauna like this can be packed up and folded away, and it is usually the infrared heater that is the most difficult part to move. There are various designs of portable sauna based on soft materials that are light and portable and easy to fold up, some coming with their own bag to store and transport them.
Finally it is the construction that is the other essential. For the more solid portable units it is quite possible to make them so that they can be disassembled and packed up. Even wooden portable saunas can, if designed properly, be packed up and taken away. It’s all about how you design them.
And there can be a lot of benefits to a sauna that is easy to move around. Apart from being able to use it wherever you want you will find that many portable far infrared saunas on the market are cheaper than the more tradtional timber style saunas, costing sometimes somewhere around $600 or so compared to thousands for a solid timber garden or home sauna. And that, combined with the ability to take it anywhere, can make a portable unit very appealing.
And of course with a portable sauna you still get all the benefits you’d get with a larger more expensive and less portable sauna. And that’s got to be good.
Here’s a great video about portable infrared saunas.
